Squeak - Pip Oostergetel

I am fortunate enough to have some very talented, creative and inspiring friends. Over the next few months I hope to introduce you to some of them. The first one I'd like to introduce you to is Pippa Oostergetel. Pip has recently launched her new business Squeak.

I attended her launch and along with champagne and sweet cupcakes made by her, there was also her beautiful new range of silk scarves. The digitally printed designs feature many cities of the world and gorgeous abstract designs. All are very generous in size.

Pip is a textile designer and after working in the industry for several years has branched out and started her own company. At the launch there was a buzz of excitement and nothing but positive feedback for Squeak. I look forward to seeing what Pip has in store for Squeak.

Q&A with Squeak

If you were a colour what would you be?

Orange! Not too bright an orange though, a bit more burnt and earthy. Mainly because it's my favourite colour, but also because it shares a lot of my characteristics...or at least ones that I aspire to have. It's warm and soothing. Happy and lively but also mature and sophisticated. It's dependable and comforting.

Cupcakes or Sushi?

Definitely Sushi. Although, I have this weird and intense dislike for all things seafood and fish related. So when I say sushi, I mean more avocado hand rolls. With soy, ginger, and wasabi, of course, all sushi should be accessorised to the max! I've never really had that much of a sweet tooth and while cupcakes are delicious it's a once in a while occasion, where as sushi can be an every day affair.

Most unusual muse?

Hmmm...Les Miserables. More specifically the music to Les Mis. Kind of pathetic that I find inspiration in a classic broadway show, but I can be struggling and struggling with a design or with motivation, but chuck the '1988 Les Miserables Highlights' CD on and I'm off! I'll be singing at the top of my lungs, in octaves my voice has no right to attempt, while working away at top speed.

App/s you can't live without?
OK, another pathetic answer, but...Solitaire... or maybe Minesweeper. I get it, in this new App age there's millions of new fancy games out there. I've been there, I've done that. I've hurled angry birds around, and I've made lots of words with friends, but sometimes there's a reason why classics are classics...and it's just because they're better!

Daily reads? Top 3 blogs?
Well, naturally The Design Files, that's a given, after that I really like the Plenty of Colour blog as well as Bloesem. But, honestly, I'm turning to pinterest more and more these days. It's just too convenient to have so many wonderful images, from so many different sources all on the one 'personalised' sight.

Lastly, what is your sweet skill?
Singing off-key Les Mis songs.

Thanks Pip - You're a star.

Enjoy

Ax

P.S The goodies bags had super yummy brownies and all scarves are beautifully wrapped as above.

A Colour Story - Fluro Red Meets Charcoal

The little succulent sitting on our outdoor table is flowering at the moment and the flowers are this fluro red colour. Now my new favoutie colour is fluro red. Its a mix of fluro pink and fluro orange. This colour makes my heart sing! This colour pops when sitting with charcoal.
I was glad to find inspiration in my back yard.

Three Layered Cup Cake

I am a little excited about this one. I was first inspired to make some kind of layered cake by my local cafe. They make amazing cupcakes with loads of icing and have crazy flavour combinations. Of course I usually arrive at the cafe very early in the morning and well, let's face it, cake is not really a breakfast food. Especially when you are trying to be a good role model for your little ones.

This 3 layer cake consist of: Layer 1; meringue, layer 2; cookies and cream ice cream and layer 3: chocolate sponge. All yum on their own and a true indulgence together.
